LIGHT TOUCH CHANGE
CREATIVITY & STRATEGY
VALUING YOUR CUSTOMERS
After an MA at Oxford, I was fortunate to have my first leadership responsibility at 22 with an educational NGO project. After a further stint in teaching I went to work for IBM, gaining a fantastic business education, before becoming a director of IBM's #1 European business partner and then co-founding a world-leading software and tech services business. The innovation space was tools to manage individual relationships with customers.
Later, I morphed into design, consulting and advisory services helping organisations get closer to customers. In an amazing project working with Ogilvy over 10 years, we helped transform the face of one-to-one digital marketing. There are some excerpts about individualised service from a book I wrote about this on the site. The book was Valuing Your Customers.
Then, I was surprisingly head-hunted to found a research centre in integrated marketing and made a full professor. During these years I delved deeply into the systemic and ecological detail of how organisations work. Through these years, I got involved in designing a number of transformational and widely used creative business tools and processes. These impacted customer value stream, touchpoint analysis and digital marketing globally. They included Personas for advanced segmentation, integrated communication design tools, and most excitingly for me, the Virtuoso® brand, business model and culture system toolkit. (I have a book forthcoming on this.)
For the last five years, my core research focus has been the livingness of organisations, the design of light-touch change, and 21st century leadership. (Light-touch change enables relatively easy large-scale pattern change, even for companies of hundreds of thousands of people.)
My company is THINKING.
Should there not be more than one side of us?
Photography like other arts schools observation, phenomenal clarity, empathy, Zen awareness, and seeing the inwardness of every outside.
My photography work reflects and supports my interests as a business designer, entrepreneur, enterprise researcher, writer and thinker.
Working across science, art and practice seems to me to be a vial future for dealing with Earth's complexities.
